CMS Proposed Rule Impacting Brokers & FMOs

CMS recently issued a proposed rule change that would significantly impact payments brokers and agencies receive to support consumers. This would make it much harder for brokers to help seniors get coverage that best fits their needs and lead to increased costs for your clients.

By eliminating administrative payments to FMOs, brokers could experience the elimination of resources, support, and services provided by FMOs such as:

  • Continuing education and training, and on-demand support & advice
  • Technology tools, including client relationship management, quoting & enrollment, and call recording & storage
  • One-on-one mentorship and training
  • Webpages and/or their design
  • Commission payments or help with commission issues
  • Preapproved & compliant presentations for community events & meetings
  • Customer service and virtual assistant help
  • Compliance reviews of communication & marketing materials

Our FMO, Agent Pipeline, has been working to help CMS understand why this proposed rule is bad for Medicare beneficiaries. They have joined a special coalition focused on advocating the cause, Americans for Beneficiary Choice, which drafted a petition outlining many concerns about the proposed rule change. If you would like to sign the petition, please click here. You may also utilize their website to send a letter to CMS and Congress by January 5, 2024.
